About Us

Our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable health care services to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.

Our Past

For the past 50 years, we’ve been giving our Northwest neighbors the power to thrive with clean, healthy smiles and dental care that connects seamlessly to their overall health and wellness plans.

We began in the late 1960s as a federally funded research demonstration project led by the director of Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research, who believed that embedding dental care in a neighborhood medical clinic serving low-income patients would yield better outcomes. The project ran from 1968 to 1974 and laid the groundwork for what is today Kaiser Permanente Dental.

In 1974, we opened our first office as a full-fledged dental program.

Our Present

Today we serve more than 287,000 members at 21 convenient locations as far south as Eugene, Oregon, and as far north as Longview, Washington. We have been independently recognized for more than 30 years as a leader in providing high-quality, patient-centered, comprehensive care.*

We have a diverse, highly skilled group of more than 160 general and specialty dentists, as well as a broad PPO network with more than 9,300 access points in Oregon and Washington.

*Continuously accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) since 1990. Kaiser Permanente Dental is the only AAAHC-accredited dental home in the Northwest, and the third in the nation to achieve dental home accreditation.

Our Philosophy

We stand for total health. We emphasize prevention and want to help you achieve and maintain a healthy smile.

Our integration with the Kaiser Permanente medical team allows us to offer more comprehensive, coordinated care. Our electronic health record system helps our doctors and dentists work closely together with and for you.

We collaborate with your Kaiser Permanente medical providers to help prevent illness and manage chronic conditions with reminders for needed health screenings and care. All adults receive a blood pressure screening at dental exams. If you have an elevated reading, our dental team will refer you to your primary care provider for follow-up.
